OUR Community

Find out why SMU students are some of the warmest and friendliest people you'll ever meet!

“I hope to be a social entrepreneur in the future but working towards that I could consider being a forex analyst first. The joy of helping people is more than what words can express.”

Elijah Tan

SMU Merit Scholar

Year 2 student, School of Economics & School of Social Sciences

Majors: Economics and Psychology

I would recommend the SMU Merit Scholarship to my juniors because:

The scholarship removes the financial burden of university education and thus allows me to focus on my studies. I have also made lots of friends with whom I can share my joys and worries and whom I can rely on. The scholarship has also given me the opportunity to explore other cultures and teaching pedagogies by going overseas, such as to Cambridge during the summer and on an Overseas Community Service Project Vietnam.

A highlight of my time in SMU so far would be:

Being a Teaching Assistant for the Management Communication module under Professor Daisy Teh has been a very fulfilling experience. Sharing the fun of Management Communication as well as helping students out with the consultation for the 3 tests has been a memorable time. Lasting friendships have been forged - chatting on a weekly basis, going on summer exchange together as well as seeking notes and advice from the seniors too!
