About the Award

Established in 2008, the Prize aims to motivate Bachelor of Laws students from the Yong Pung  How School of Law (YPHSL) at the Singapore Management University, and to spur them to greater heights of academic excellence

The Prize will be presented at a School-level event.

Eligibility Criteria

  • The Prize will be given annually to the top third-year law undergraduate from YPHSL. If there is more than one top student, the Prize will be shared.
  • Factors considered include (but not limited to) the overall GPA and any other factors which demonstrate the student’s all-rounded abilities.

The Prize will only be given if there is a candidate of sufficient merit.

About the Donor

This Award honours the late Punch Coomaraswamy (1925 – 1999). Mr Coomaraswamy was a leading advocate before he left the bar to enter public service as Speaker of Parliament, diplomat and Judge of the High Court. He valued above all else the precise use of language and its norms in articulating the analysis and application of legal principles.
