Invest in a holistic education that prepares you to be ready for this volatile and uncertain world.

Why did you choose to join SMU?

I joined SMU in 2005. SMU was and is still clearly different in its commitment to provide a transformational experience for students. The commitment to the holistic development of students resonates with my own convictions on teaching and student development.

Classes/Modules you currently teach and Research Areas of Interest

I teach Advanced Financial Accounting to undergraduates and postgraduates in the Bachelor of Accountancy and Masters in Professional Accounting degree programmes in the School of Accountancy. My research interests is current developments in International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRSs). These are global accounting standards that impact financial reporting around the world. My research interests allow me to be at the intersection of academic thought and practical challenges.

How has SMU’s city location enriched the teaching / research experience?

It is wonderful to be in a city campus. The location has enhanced my ability to serve the professional community and the public service in committee work and consultancy. As my research interests place me in a unique position to interact with both academics and practitioners, the city location is a real bonus. The ability to conduct courses for practitioners and to interact with them on professional matters is greatly enhanced by the close proximity of SMU to the city.

What is your favourite spot on campus?

Fort Canning Park is almost at the backyard of the campus and it’s my favourite spot to get fresh air and to appreciate the fluttering butterflies and green fields.
