Wong Kwok Leong Endowed Scholarship

About the Financial Award

The Wong Kwok Leong Endowed Scholarship is available to local undergraduates currently studying full-time at the Singapore Management University.

The objective of the scholarship is to encourage and spur full-time undergraduates in any degree programme, with demonstrated financial need, to achieve academic excellence.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Full-time SMU undergraduates in any degree programme
  • Singapore Citizen or Singapore Permanent Resident
  • Outstanding academic achievements (minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00)
  • Active involvement and commitment in community service
  • Priority will be given to students with demonstrated financial need (not exceeding the gross monthly household per capita income in accordance with the prevailing income level for government-funded bursaries)

Benefits

  • $13,333 per annum (towards subsidised tuition fees)
  • Tenable for one year of study

Conditions of Award

  • The Recipients will be strongly encouraged to contribute back to the community by submitting a charity fund-raising project plan to the Donor
  • Singaporean students may be in concurrent receipt of a government bursary, subject to fulfilment of its eligibility criteria
  • The Recipient must not hold any other awards of similar nature during the tenure of the Award, except with the prior written approval of the University

About the Donor

The Wong Kwok Leong Endowed Scholarship is set up with a $1million endowed donation by local businessman and philanthropist Mr Wong Kwok Leong and his wife, during their 50th year wedding anniversary celebrations. The scholarship will go towards helping outstanding students with financial need. With Mr Wong's demise in 2008, Mrs Wong continues this life-long commitment and dedication to helping the less privileged and giving back to the society.
