The School of Accountancy (SOA) is accredited by 10 professional and educational bodies and the youngest local institution to have received accreditation from AACSB International for its Accounting programme. The SMU BAcc programme also enjoys module exemptions offered by many of the professional accounting bodies and our graduates are able to acquire their professional accounting qualifications in the shortest amount of time possible.

Get Practical, Hands-On Work Experience
WSPs provide opportunities for students to undergo longer internship durations to better interlace classroom-learning with structured on-the-job training.
Students will alternate working at least four days and studying on campus for one day each week for a minimum of 20 weeks. SOA offers the following WSPs:

SMU Accounting Data And Analytics Work-Study Programme
This programme aims to train a next generation of accounting professionals for digital transformation. Students under this programme will have the opportunity to apply their data analytics knowledge and pick up new skill-sets in one of four service lines in EY or PwC – Assurance, Consulting, Strategy and Transactions, and Tax.

SMU Financial Forensics Work-Study Programme
Develop skill-sets in financial forensics through an immersive on-the-job experience detecting and preventing financial crime in the digital technology domain, through a 2O-week internship with OCBC Bank.

SMU Sustainability Accounting Work-Study Elective
Explore the real-world applications of sustainability accounting and develop the skills and knowledge necessary to become effective sustainability accountants through a 20-week internship.

SMU Audit & Assurance Work-Study Elective
Gain a holistic understanding of the real-world processes in the auditing field with a work-study attachment and pave the way for performing higher-level audit work when entering the profession.
