The School of Accountancy (SOA) is accredited by 10 professional and educational bodies, and is the first in Asia to be recognised by ICAEW for the ACA Strategic Credits pathway. BAcc students can receive exemptions from 12 out of the 15 examination modules in the ACA qualification programme.

Equipped with the above skill sets and more, an accountancy degree can open doors to more career opportunities than you could ever fathom. Accounting is the language of business, and employees with accounting knowledge are an asset for any organisation. This means your degree opens doors to the industry of your choice, whether in or out of the accounting trade.
With that goal in sight, you can study at your own pace and complete the SMU BAcc programme in four years or less. Many students choose to pace themselves, and enrich their tertiary experience with an overseas exchange, multiple internships, and more; a decision which has given them an edge. 98.1% of our students were employed within six months of graduation; and 7 in 10 received job offers before graduation (Graduate Employment Survey 2022).
Get Practical, Hands-On Work Experience
WSEPs provide opportunities for students to undergo longer internship durations to better interlace classroom-learning with structured on-the-job training.
Students will alternate working at least four days and studying on campus for one day each week for a minimum of 20 weeks. SOA offers the following WSEPs:
SMU Financial Forensics Work-Study Elective Programme (Industry Experience with OCBC Bank) *NEW
This programme will help students develop skill-sets in financial forensics through an immersive on-the-job experience detecting and preventing financial crime in the digital technology domain, through a 20-week internship with OCBC Bank. (Available in July 2023).
SMU-KPMG Cyber Risk And Forensics Work-Study Elective Programme
This programme is a collaboration between SMU and KPMG Singapore that aims to train a next generation of cyber-criminal combatants to enter the fast-growing area of financial forensics and cyber forensics.
SMU Accounting Data And Analytics Work-Study Elective Programme
This programme aims to train a next generation of accounting professionals for digital transformation. Students under this programme will have the opportunity to apply their data analytics knowledge and pick up new skill-sets in one of four service lines in EY or PwC – Assurance, Consulting, Strategy and Transactions, and Tax.
SMU Audit And Assurance Work-Study Elective (Industry Experience With Deloitte)
The Audit and Assurance Work-Study Elective provides students a holistic understanding of the real-world processess in the auditing field and its use of technology. The work-study attachment at Deloitte will lay the foundation for students to perform higher-level audit work when they join the profession.
