SMU believes in providing our students with a transformative education by nurturing a cadre of graduates who can navigate emerging fields of knowledge, possess the agility to master multiple disciplines, and adopt an integrative approach to reframing and addressing challenges.
Established in 2022, the College of Integrative Studies (CIS) is SMU’s seventh School and plays a pivotal role in helping students traverse the disciplinary areas associated with the other SMU Schools – Accountancy, Business, Economics, Computing, Law and Social Sciences.
CIS offers 2 distinct programmes – Deferred Declaration of Degree [D3] and Bachelor of Integrative Studies (Individualised Major) [BIS (IM)]. The D3 programme allows students a year to explore courses across SMU before deciding on a degree programme with no delay to graduation. The BIS (IM) programme is the only programme in Singapore that empowers students to design their own major!

Deferred Declaration Of Degree
A one-year introduction to the different degree programmes that SMU has to offer. Students enjoy the flexibility to explore their interests and engage in self-directed learning, enabling an informed decision on the destination degree programme. On admission, students can reserve seats in up to 2 degree programmes across SMU Schools, including the Bachelor of Integrative Studies (BIS).
Bachelor of Integrative Studies (Individualised Major)
Students with a passion and aptitude for interdisciplinary problem-solving and a bold desire to chart their own paths can enroll in this programme to design and individualise their major.
