Big Fish Endowed Study Award

About the Financial Award

Established in 2024, the Big Fish Endowed Study Award is available to full-time undergraduates at the Singapore Management University.  It aims to encourage bright undergraduates to aspire for academic excellence in spite of adversity and financial hardship.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Full-time undergraduates enrolled in any degree programme
  • Singapore Citizens
  • With demonstrated evidence of family financial hardships (with gross monthly household per capita income in accordance with prevailing guidelines to qualify for government bursaries)

Benefits

  • $10,666 per year (towards annual subsidised tuition fees)
  • Tenable for one year of study

Conditions of Award

  • May be in concurrent receipt of a government bursary, subject to fulfilment of its eligibility criteria
  • The Recipient must not hold any other awards of similar nature during the tenure of the Award, except with the prior written approval of the University

Application

Shortlisting of candidates for consideration will be from the list of applicants applying for SMU-administered bursaries in the year of award.

About the Donor

Donated by SMU alumna Celeste Phua and her husband Christopher Lim, this study award seeks to provide a safe harbour for deserving students to tide through the financial difficulties that they may be facing. It is the donors’ vision that the study award would enable students to focus on their studies and make full use of their university experiences, so that they may uplift their families and create meaningful impact for society upon graduation.
