About the Financial Award
Established in 2022, the Chia Family Bursary is available to full-time undergraduates enrolled in the Yong Pung How School of Law at the Singapore Management University. It is aimed to encourage bright law undergraduates to aspire for greater heights of excellence in spite of adversity and financial hardship.
Eligibility Criteria
- Full-time undergraduates from the Yong Pung How School of Law
- Singapore Citizens or Singapore Permanent Residents
- Demonstrated evidence of family financial hardships (with gross monthly household per capita income in accordance with prevailing guidelines to qualify for government bursaries)
Benefits
- $8,000 per annum (towards subsidised tuition fees)
- Tenable for one year of study
- May be in concurrent receipt of a bursary for cash allowance, subject to fulfilment of its eligibility criteria.
Application
Shortlisting of candidates for consideration will be from the list of applicants applying for SMU-Administered bursaries in the year of award.

About the Donor
Ms Charlene Tay Chia and her husband Mr Chia Voon Jiet are lawyers in public service and private practice respectively. They established the Chia Family Bursary to assist undergraduates facing financial adversity. It is their firm belief that access to legal education in Singapore should not be deterred by personal financial circumstances, and that there be equal opportunities for all deserving individuals to achieve academic success and contribute to the legal profession.
