About the Financial Award

Established in 2024, the Haji Mohamed Sani Bin Haji Mansoor Study Award is available to full-time undergraduates at the Singapore Management University.  It aims to motivate bright undergraduates with demonstrated financial needs, to aspire for greater heights of academic excellence. 

Eligibility Criteria

  • Full-time first year undergraduates enrolled in any degree programme
  • Singapore Citizen
  • With demonstrated evidence of family financial hardships (with gross monthly household per capita income in accordance with prevailing guidelines to qualify for government bursaries)

Benefits

  • $8,000 per year (towards annual subsidised tuition fees)
  • Tenable for up to four years of study, subject to the recipient’s continued observance of the eligibility criteria and the terms and conditions of award.
  • May be in concurrent receipt of another bursary for cash allowance, subject to fulfilment of its eligibility criteria.

Application

Shortlisting of candidates for consideration will be from the list of applicants applying for SMU-administered bursaries in the year of award.

About the Donor

Mr Chia Chee Ming Timothy is the Chairman of Singapore Management University’s Committee for Institutional Advancement (CIA). He is also a Member of SMU and a former member of the SMU Board of Trustees.

Mr Chia has a wealth of experience in the corporate sector, specifically in the finance, banking and insurance industry. He is Chairman of Hup Soon Global Corporation Private Limited, Gracefield Holdings Limited and InnoVen Capital Private Limited.. He is also a Director of Singapore Power Ltd, Seviora Holdings Private Limited, Vertex Venture Holdings Ltd and Thai Beverage Public Company Limited.

He was Director of Banyan Tree Holdings Ltd, Fraser and Neave Limited, The Straits Trading Company Limited, Ceylon Guardian Investment Trust PLC, Ceylon Investment PLC and Malaysia Smelting Corporation Berhad.

Throughout his career, Mr Chia held steadfast to the values of loyalty and dedication, qualities exemplified by his esteemed employee - Mr Haji Mohamed Sani Bin Haji Mansoor. He served Mr Chia faithfully for over three decades. 

In honour of Mr Sani’s memory, Mr Chia established the ‘Haji Mohamed Sani Bin Haji Mansoor’ Study Award. This study award not only serves as a tribute to Mr Sani’s legacy but also aims to alleviate the financial burdens faced by deserving students.
