About the Donor

Justice Choor Singh Sidhu in his early schooling years encountered financial difficulties but that did not deter him from topping his ‘O’ level examinations at Raffles Institution in 1929. Appointed as a district judge in 1960, he went on to become a judge of the Supreme Court in 1963. He was also known as a philanthropist and writer of books about Sikhism.

The Justice Choor Singh Study Award is established to reflect the late Justice Choor Singh’s philanthropic spirit and resilience, and his life story to serve as a source of inspiration for undergraduate students to aspire for academic excellence in spite of adversity and financial hardship.
