About the Award

Established in 2012, the Shu Li Sports Excellence Award Scheme aims to motivate the exceptional student talents at the Singapore Management University to achieve excellence in sporting endeavours.

Eligibility Criteria

Demonstrated sports achievements in any of the following areas:

  • Achievement in competition at the national or international level
  • Initiated sports achievements which led to student participation at campus-wide events
  • Contributed to the growing sports participations at the University

The awards will only be given if there are candidates/teams of sufficient merit.

Benefits

  • Shu Li Sports Excellence Award (Best Sports Team of the Year) – Certificate and $3,000 Cash Prize
  • Shu Li Sports Excellence Award (Best Sportsman of the Year) – Certificate and $1,500 Cash Prize
  • Shu Li Sports Excellence Award (Best Sportswoman of the Year) – Certificate and $1,500 Cash Prize

About the Donor

Established in 2012 by SMU alumnus Mr Gao Lu, the Yu Xin Community Leadership Award and Project Grant and the Shu Li Sports Excellence Award respectively motivate exceptional student talents at the University in community service and in sports. These awards and project grant are to spur students to greater heights of excellence, as well as provide recognition to outstanding students in both community leadership and sports.

A Chartered Financial Analyst, Mr Gao Lu graduated from the University in 2007 and is a senior executive in the finance industry. These awards and project grant are to honour his parents Mr Gao Shu Li and Madam Ding Yuxin. The senior Mr Gao was a surgeon in Navy 401 Hospital, China and Mrs Gao was a teacher at Qingdao Jiayuguan Primary School, China.
