About the Financial Award

The Temasek Foundation Union Scholarships were established in honour of three eminent union leaders, Mr G Muthukumarasamy, Mr Nachiappan RK Sinniah, and Mr Nithiah Nandan s/o Arumugam who tirelessly championed for the welfare of lower-income workers and advocated for access to certified training and skills upgrading. Temasek Foundation – G Muthukumarasamy Scholarship, Temasek Foundation – RKS Nachiappan Scholarship, and Temasek Foundation – Nithiah Nandan Arumugam Scholarship encourage and support recipients in their continuing and lifelong education journey. Offered to students of all ages including mature students, these scholarships are offered on a merit basis to individuals from lower income backgrounds, who demonstrate academic excellence. Each scholarship also provides a family recognition award to be shared among the recipient’s family or household member(s).

SMU will offer the Temasek Foundation – Nithiah Nandan Arumugam Scholarship and the Temasek Foundation – RKS Nachiappan Scholarship.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Full-time undergraduates in any year of study and enrolled in any degree programme
  • Singapore Citizens
  • Students of all ages are welcome to apply
  • Good academic results 
  • Have demonstrated financial needs with gross monthly household per capita income not exceeding $1,875

Benefits

  • Living allowance of $5,000 annually
  • Family recognition award of $2,000 annually (the awardee can nominate one or more family / household member(s) to receive the award)
  • Tenable for the entire course of study*
  • Bond free

The scholarships will be allocated based on merit and income criteria and are *renewable yearly subject to recipients meeting the criteria.
