About the Financial Award

Established in 2022, the Yap Xin Horng Study Award is available to full-time undergraduates from the Lee Kong Chian School of Business at the Singapore Management University.  It is aimed at providing assistance to financially needy undergraduates who also have a robust and active student life at the University.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Full-time undergraduates enrolled in the Lee Kong Chian School of Business
  • Singapore Citizens and Singapore Permanent Residents
  • Demonstrated evidence of family financial hardships (with gross monthly household per capita income in accordance with prevailing guidelines to qualify for government bursaries)

Benefits

  • $8,000 per annum (towards subsidised tuition fees)
  • Tenable for one year of study
  • May be in concurrent receipt of a bursary for cash allowance, subject to fulfilment of its eligibility criteria (for Singaporean students only).

Application

Shortlisting of candidates for consideration will be from the list of applicants applying for SMU-administered bursaries in the year of award.

About the Donor

Yap Xin Horng (BBM, 2020) is currently in the finance industry, implementing comprehensive solutions for matters pertaining to wealth accumulation, preservation, legacy planning and risk management. Being a senior director in the firm, Xin Horng has also co-written a well-received book entitled “Adulting Starter Pack”, outlining advice to fresh graduates on CPF matters, finding the right jobs, buying their first dream home etc. Being a graduate, he wishes to give back and contribute to the University. His continuous desire to guide, mentor and focus on the needs of the youth and young adults has led him to establish the Yap Xin Horng Study Award for financially challenged students at SMU.
