About the Donor
SMU alumna Doreen Tan Meiyan, CFA, CAIA (BBM 2008), a dedicated banking professional and former recipient of the SMU Scholarship, firmly believes in meritocracy and equal opportunity—that one’s future should be shaped not by financial background but by resilience and determination. Raised in a middle-class family, she has seen how diligence and a relentless spirit can turn challenges into opportunities and setbacks into stepping stones.
Doreen’s vision is to nurture future leaders who carry forward the same principles of grit and resilience—ensuring that talent, not circumstance, defines destiny.
With the establishment of the Doreen Tan Meiyan Scholarship, she seeks to empower hardworking students who embody perseverance to pursue their aspirations with confidence. It stands as a message that with commitment, grit, and integrity, obstacles can be overcome and individual paths to success forged. She hopes to inspire recipients to excel and one day uplift others, creating a cycle of empowerment.
