About the Award
Supported by Ms Ruth Chiang, the Ruth Chiang Outstanding Intern of the Year Awards scheme is aimed at encouraging excellence in internship performance, upholding of good and ethical values and practices at the workplace and recognising students’ performance at the workplace.
Eligibility Criteria
Full-time SMU students who have completed an excellent internship during the year by going beyond the call of duty, exhibited the SMU CIRCLE (Commitment-Integrity-Responsibility-Collegiality-Leadership-Excellence) values and have received excellent performance appraisals from their supervisors in the host organisation may be nominated to be considered.
In addition, but not limited to, the nominees must:
- Possess satisfactory academic achievements
- Complete a minimum 10-week internship attachment either in Singapore or overseas which may be the first or subsequent internship
- Have played a significant role and contributed to the host organisations and the people they serve
The Awards will be given only if there are candidates of sufficient merit.
Benefits
- First Prize – Certificate of Distinction and $1,000 Cash Prize
- First Runner-Up – Certificate of Distinction and $750 Cash Prize
- Second Runner-Up – Certificate of Distinction and $500 Cash Prize
Application
This award scheme is managed by the Dato' Kho Hui Meng Career Centre (DKHMCC). Information on internship and qualifying for the award will be sent via email by DKHMCC in Term 2.

About the Donor
The award is funded from the proceeds of an endowed contribution by Ms Ruth Chiang.
The Ruth Chiang Outstanding Intern of the Year Award is established by pioneer director of SMU Office of Career Services, Ms Ruth Chiang to recognise outstanding interns who went beyond the call of duty and have received excellent performance appraisals from their supervisors in the host organisations. Through this Award, Ms Chiang hopes to encourage students to strive for excellence in internship performance as well as to uphold good values and ethical practices at the workplace.
