Share with us more about the research you did after your A-Levels when deciding which university to choose?

After completing my A-Levels, I had the privilege of working at the prestigious Asia Competitiveness Institute in Singapore. Like many of my peers, I attended university open houses and carefully reviewed course offerings and associated experiences. However, through discussions with researchers, I realized that I desired a distinct academic path, diverging from the traditional choices of NUS and NTU. I was eager to step outside my comfort zone, explore new horizons, and gain unique experiences, which I am pleased to have achieved.

Please share about any community service projects/trips that you have taken part in in SMU, and why those are meaningful to you.

I have had the privilege of participating in several community service initiatives at SMU, including Freshman Orientation and a youth mentoring program focused on providing mathematical guidance to underprivileged children. These experiences have been incredibly meaningful to me as they have allowed me to contribute to my community and make a positive impact on the lives of others.

Through my involvement in Freshman Orientation, I had the opportunity to welcome new students to the SMU community and help them transition smoothly into university life. This experience fostered a sense of belonging and camaraderie among the incoming class.

My work as a youth mentor has been particularly rewarding. By providing academic support and guidance to underprivileged children, I have been able to help them develop their mathematical skills and build confidence in their abilities. Witnessing their progress and seeing the positive impact of my mentorship has been truly inspiring.

Please share one highlight of your academic experience in SMU.

A highlight of my time at SMU was my exchange program at HEC Paris. This experience allowed me to interact with students from diverse backgrounds and cultures, broadening my global perspective. During my exchange, I had the opportunity to explore many of the iconic landmarks and attractions in Paris and its surrounding countries. Moreover, I embarked on a challenging but rewarding hike in Chamonix with a group of SMU friends. The arduous ascent was made worthwhile by the breathtaking panoramic view from the summit.
