Why did you choose to come to SMU?
I chose to come to SMU because I love the pedagogy. I love how SMU classes typically have less than 50 people, and every class gives you an opportunity for open discussion and you are able to voice out things that you do not understand. I also chose SMU because of its city location and I need not have to worry about accommodation as I can travel from home. Lastly, I chose SMU because of the wide array of global opportunities that they offer, such as ISEP, Overseas Internship as well as Overseas SMU-X Modules.
What is one thing you were unprepared for about university life that you wish you knew before joining SMU?
I wish I could be more mentally prepared about being more confident. In SMU, there are many instances where you would have to be confident of yourself. One such example is during class part, it is important to be confident about yourself and your answers. If you are confident, you would not be afraid to class part or ask anything.
How has SMU’s city location enriched your university experience?
The relatively shorter travelling time has allowed me to have more experiences for my student life outside classes. I am able to commit myself to various events and experiences. Additionally, I am able to enjoy the widespread beautiful architecture of nearby buildings and delicious food throughout my school life.
Please share a key highlight of your academic experience in SMU
One key highlight is my SMU-X GA308 Applied Social Sciences module to Bali. This module was an interesting one because we got to work with real-life clients overseas. We worked with Mana Earthly Paradise, a sustainable Earth Company. We had to recommend ideas that can help improve their company functions through continue or improved sustainable practices. This was a very interesting project as I had not done such a project in school before. Additionally, during 5 out of 12 days of the Bali Trip, we stayed in the client’s very own sustainable hotel, Mana Earthly Paradise where we got to experience sustainable and green tourism ourselves.
