There are no huge lecture theatres at SMU. Instead, all students take seminar-style classes set in MBA-style seminar rooms.

Comprising no more than 45 students each, the seminars provide a supportive environment where there is strong professor-student interaction, fostering open discussions and the exchange of ideas rather than the traditional one-way communication. This conducive and encouraging environment will embolden you to speak up and benefit from intellectually-stimulating discussions with your peers and professors. In the process, you will hone your communication skills, and the ability to think on your feet.

TESTIMONIALS

“In my JC days, I would usually shy away from people and keep to myself in class. However, after coming to SMU, that has changed incredibly. In my first year in SMU, I was blessed with a professor who was aware that many freshmen students were not confident in speaking up in class. She nurtured a safe and open environment in the classroom, to encourage us to speak up. Through this module, I became more confident in public speaking and I felt myself becoming more extroverted.”

Chua Min Hui, Year 3 student, Lee Kong Chian School of Business

"At the core of our curriculum is an unrelenting pursuit of excellence that prepares you to be future-ready, outspoken and articulate - qualities that are highly sought-after by employers. This is the forward-thinking education we deliver for the movers and shakers of tomorrow. This is the ‘SMU Difference’.”
