About the Financial Award

The SMU Student Emergency Financial Grant is a one-off emergency financial grant by the University to assist full-time undergraduate students facing unforeseen financial crisis and who would require interim financial assistance while their families seek for long-term solutions to meet their financial needs.

Eligibility Criteria

Full-time undergraduate student whose family is faced with a sudden difficult financial situation (eg serious illness of a family member who is to undergo medical treatment/surgery, incapacitation of bread-winner, retrenchment of bread-winner, etc).

Priority for students with evidence of financial hardship with a gross monthly household per capita income in accordance with prevailing guidelines to qualify for government bursaries [Priority will be given to students with verified per capita income (PCI) and/or Gross Household Income (GHI)]

Tenure and Benefits

  • Up to $2,000 (depending on level of financial difficulties)
  • Tenable for one year of study
