About the Award

This Lai Kew Chai Prize for The Top First Year Law Student is made possible from the proceeds of an endowed contribution by an anonymous donor.  It is given annually to recognize the most outstanding first year student from the Yong Pung How School of Law (YPHSL). The Prize is aimed at motivating the University's exceptional students' talents and spurring them to achieve greater heights of academic excellence.

The Prize will be presented at the SMU Convocation Ceremony.

Eligibility Criteria

  • The Prize will be given annually to a LL.B student with the most outstanding academic performance over two consecutive regular terms in his first year of studies under the LL.B. programme.
  • Factors considered include (but not limited to) the overall GPA and any other factors which demonstrate the student’s all-rounded abilities.

The Prize will only be given if there is a candidate of sufficient merit.

Certificate and $3,000 Cash Prize

Application

Recipient will be determined by YPHSL.
