About the Donor

Like many others in his generation, Mr Lee Yoke Chor (1935 - 2006) received no more than secondary education.  Despite the limited learning opportunities, he taught himself English and Malay and became proficient in three languages, including Chinese.  Throughout his life, he enjoyed reading and learning, ever keen to engage in deep and thoughtful analysis.  With the support of his wife, Mr Lee worked hard to raise a family of four children, a process made more difficult by various financial as well as health setbacks.  Mr Lee, however, always faced each challenge with equanimity, optimism and ingeniousness. He consistently taught and modelled for his children the virtues of diligence, resilience and responsibility.  For him, honesty and integrity are the absolute essence of a meaningful life.
