About the Financial Award

Established in 2022, the Mapletree - Tsang Yam Pui Bursary aims to motivate and assist full-time undergraduate students at the Singapore Management University, with demonstrated financial needs, to achieve academic excellence.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Full-time undergraduates enrolled in any degree programme
  • Singapore Citizens or Singapore Permanent Residents
  • With demonstrated financial needs with gross monthly per capita household income not exceeding $1,700

Tenure and Benefits

  • $8,000 (towards subsidised tuition fee)
  • Tenable for one year of study
  • May be in concurrent receipt of another bursary for cash allowance, subject to fulfilment of its eligibility criteria.
  • May be granted internship and/or career opportunity with Mapletree Investments Pte Ltd or its designated companies.

Application

Shortlisting of candidates for consideration will be from the list of applicants applying for SMU-administered bursaries in the year of award.

The naming of the bursary after Mr Tsang Yam Pui is to build a legacy that enables future generations of students to learn of Mr Tsang’s stewardship and contributions to the real estate sector. Mr Tsang served on the Board of Mapletree Investments Pte Ltd for over a decade, and officially retired on 31 January 2022.

As a member of the Audit and Risk Committee, Mr Tsang provided invaluable counsel to the Group on its investments over the years. He was also the Non-Executive Chairman and Director of Mapletree Commercial Trust Management Ltd (MCTM), which manages the Mapletree Commercial Trust, since 2011. 

Mr Tsang’s strategic guidance has helped the Mapletree Group grow from a Singapore-centric company in 2003, to a global company with total assets under management of more than S$78.7 billion (as at 31 March 2022).
