About the Financial Award

The SMU Study Award (Tier 1, Tier 2 and Tier 3A) is available to full-time undergraduate students at the Singapore Management University.  It is aimed at providing financial assistance to needy students who require further financial assistance beyond utilisation of available financial assistant schemes towards their cost of education.

Eligibility

  • Needy full-time first year undergraduate student who has used available loan schemes or subsidies up to 90% of the tuition fees payable by Singaporean students.
  • Tier 1: PCI not exceeding $1,100 or GHI not exceeding $4,400
  • Tier 2: PCI between $1,101 and $1,875 or GHI between $4,401 and $7,500
  • Tier 3A PCI between $1,876 and $2,500 or GHI between $7,501 and $10,000
  • Student in receipt of scholarship/study award/study grant/bursary may be considered only on a case-by-case basis.
  • Student in receipt of a scholarship/study award/study grant/bursary covering tuition fee and a monthly/annual living allowance is not eligible.

PCI refers to Gross (or Total) Monthly Household Per Capita Income, computed by dividing the Gross Household Income of the members in the household over the number of members in the household.

GHI refers to Gross (or Total) Monthly Household Income of the members in the household.

Benefits

SMU Study Award Tier 1: $1,800 (cash allowance), tenable for one year of study
SMU Study Award Tier 2: $1,500 (cash allowance), tenable for one year of study
SMU Study Award Tier 3A: $1,350 (cash allowance), tenable for one year of study

Repayment

No repayment required. However, the study award must be refunded in part or in full if the student withdraws from studies or studies terminated.

Application

Matriculated Students

  • Apply via student portal, OASIS (All Apps – Financial Aid Application), using student computer account username and password
  • Application period:
    - 1 January to 31 March
  • The application exercises are for the same year of award in the academic year the applicants are in active study
  • The applicant is to submit a new application if he/she wishes to be considered for a study award in the subsequent year of study

Prospective Students

  • Apply via  Applicant's Self Service  by 31 May in the year of commencement of studies
  • Offer to successful applicants is subject to successful matriculation into SMU for commencement of studies in the year of award
