About the Donor

The Yong Pung How Bursary is made possible through the proceeds of endowed contributions by the late Dr Yong Pung How, former Chief Justice of Singapore.

Dr Yong was also the former Chancellor of SMU and former Chairman of the SMU School of Law Advisory Board. In 2007, Dr Yong also established the Yong Pung How Professorship in Law at SMU with an aim to advance the research and teaching of law in SMU through the appointment of an acclaimed legal luminary. In 2014, Dr Yong made a further gift to the School of Law in support of the two law research centres – Centre for Cross-Border Commercial Law in Asia, and the Applied Research Centre for Intellectual Assets and the Law in Asia. To inspire law students to strive for academic excellence and achieve their fullest potential, Dr Yong established the Yong Pung How Bursary, which seeks to provide financial assistance to deserving undergraduates pursuing their full-time studies at SMU.
