About the Financial Award

Established in 2025, the Hiew Yoon Khong and Lee Su Chin Emergency Grant aims to assist students who face unforeseen crisis that result in financial hardship, while their families seek for longer-term solutions to meet their financial needs, by providing them with one-off emergency funding.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Current recipients of the Scholarships, as well as other non-recipients who hold Malaysian citizenship.
  • In need of immediate financial assistance, as assessed by the University [Only applicable to undergraduate students. Priority will be given to students with verified per capita income (PCI) and/or Gross Household Income (GHI)].

Benefits

  • The value of each grant is determined at the discretion of the University
  • The grant shall be awarded as a one-time, non-recurring disbursement

About the Donor

Mr Hiew Yoon Khong is currently the Group CEO of Mapletree Investments Pte Ltd and has been in this role since 2003. Under Mr Hiew, the Mapletree Group has grown its’ Assets Under Management from less than $3billion in 2003 to about $60 billion currently and has achieved an average annual return of more than 10% over this same period. Prior to his role at Mapletree, Mr Hiew was the CFO of CapitaLand Ltd and has various senior positions in management consulting, investment banking and corporate finance. He holds a Bachelor of Arts Economics and Master of Arts Economics from University of Portsmouth and University of Warwick respectively.

Madam Lee Su Chin graduated with a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) Civil Engineering from University of South London. She worked a while in Hertfordshire County Council as Highway Engineer in the UK and returned to work in an Engineering Consulting firm in Malaysia. She stopped work to get married to Mr Hiew and moved to Singapore and raised two sons, Wen Ji and Wen Li.
