About the Donor

The JKL Scholarship was established by an SMU alumnus and his wife, Desmond (BSc (ISM), 2008) and Eileen (BBM, 2008), both proud graduates who share many cherished memories of their time at SMU.

SMU holds a special place in their hearts — it was where they first met and began their life journey together.

During their university years, they were given opportunities that shaped their perspectives and careers — from overseas internships in Shanghai that broadened their horizons, to networking and work experiences with leading organisations.

Grateful for how SMU has influenced both their personal and professional journeys, the couple wishes to give back by supporting deserving students who may need financial assistance. They hope this gift will help recipients embrace every opportunity that comes their way, pursue their dreams with confidence, and one day, pay it forward.

Named after their three children — Julian, Kaitlyn, and Lucas — the JKL Scholarship represents their family’s belief in gratitude, resilience, and the importance of giving back.
