About the Award
Established in 2021, the Jo Tay Prize for the Top Student in Corporate Insolvency Law is given to motivate the University’s exceptional students’ talents in the Yong Pung How School of Law (YPHSL) and spur them to greater heights of academic excellence. It will provide recognition for the best student in Corporate Insolvency Law, an elective course offered by YPHSL.
Eligibility Criteria
- The Prize will be given to the best student in Corporate Insolvency Law, an elective course offered by YPHSL.
- Factors considered include (but not limited to) the overall course grade and any other factors which demonstrate the student’s all-rounded abilities.
The Prize will only be given if there is a candidate of sufficient merit.

About the Donor
Jo Tay is a Partner in the Restructuring and Insolvency Practice Group, Litigation Department at Allen & Gledhill LLP. She was part of the pioneer batch of law students at SMU, and read a double degree in Law (LL.B.) and Business Management (BBM, Finance) as a Lee Kong Chian Scholar. She graduated in 2012 with the Kwa Geok Choo Top Law Student Award, and went on to obtain a Master of Laws (First Class) from the University of Cambridge, on the SMU School of Law Post-Graduate Study Award. She was subsequently awarded the Foundation Scholarship by Queens’ College, Cambridge for excellent performance in her graduate studies.
Jo hopes that this Award will encourage more students to enjoy the study and subsequently the practice of insolvency law.
