About the Donors
The KMVC Endowment Fund and the KMVC Exchange Scholarship are supported by husband and wife, Kenny Mah and Valerie Loh, both of whom are SMU alumni from the School of Economics and the School of Accountancy, respectively. In 2016, to mark the 10th year anniversary of their graduation from SMU, as well as to welcome a new addition to their family, they had decided to make a gift to the University to support financially needy students.
Having had valuable experience on their overseas exchange programmes during their course of study at SMU – a period which they still fondly reminisce – and appreciating the impact it had on their lives and work perspectives, they were inspired to enable other undergraduates to embark on such programmes with the view that no deserving student should be deprived of such an exposure due to financial considerations. Kenny and Valerie hopes that the recipients of the KMVC Exchange Scholarship will experience the same benefits from their overseas exchange programmes, and be able to pay-it-forward in the future.
In 2019, the couple welcomed their second child and renamed the fund and scholarship to KMVCL Endowment Fund and KMVCL Exchange Scholarship. They hope to continue to lead by example and introduce philanthropic values to their children at an early stage.
