About the Donor

This Scholarship is made possible by Mr Sanjiv Misra, a member of the SMU Board of Trustees.

Mr Misra is President of Phoenix Advisers Pte Ltd, a boutique consulting and principal investing firm. He is also Chairman of the Asia Pacific Advisory Board of Apollo Management, a global private equity and alternative asset management firm.

The Mahendra Misra Scholarship has been established by the donor in honour of his father, the late Mr Mahendra Misra, a former business executive who lived in Singapore in the 1980's.  Mahendra Misra was an outstanding student athlete who believed strongly in the pursuit of excellence, an all-round personality, the importance of adaptability and social and cultural tolerance.

Having spent his younger days growing up in India, the donor believes that the current national debate on the role and relevance of foreigners will benefit from students taking the time to understand and respect the differences between communities. He hopes that they will thereby make a concerted effort to bridge both economic and cultural divisions in society.
