About the Financial Award
Established in 2015, the Tahir Scholarship is made possible from the proceeds of an endowed donation from prominent Indonesian businessman and philanthropist Dato’ Sri Prof. DR. Tahir, Founder of the Mayapada Group.
The scholarship is available to full-time undergraduates (freshmen) at the Singapore Management University pursuing any degree programme. It is aimed at motivating and inspiring students who require financial assistance to scale greater heights.
Eligibility Criteria
- Full-time undergraduates commencing their undergraduate studies at SMU
- Enrolled in any programme of study
- Singapore Citizens and Singapore Permanent Residents
- Possess good academic results (minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00)
- Active involvement and commitment in community service or sports
- With demonstrated financial need
Benefits
- Tenable for up to 4 years of the recipient’s academic studies, subject to continued observance of the eligibility criteria and the terms and conditions of award.
- Valued at $15,000 annually
- The recipient is encouraged to initiate or be part of an overseas community service project in Indonesia.
Application
If you would like to be considered for this scholarship, please indicate your interest in the Scholarship section of the online application form for admission. There is no separate scholarship application form.
Special consideration for this scholarship will be given to applicants with demonstrated financial needs. Applicants must also submit a separate financial aid application. This can be done via Applicant’s Self Service, after submitting the online application for admission. Prospective applicants may submit their financial aid application when it opens for its annual exercise from 1 January to 31 May.

About the Donor
DR. Tahir started from humble beginnings. Through sheer hard work, pure passion and an entrepreneurial spirit, he is today a prominent businessman and philanthropist, helming one of Indonesia’s largest conglomerates, the Mayapada Group, which has businesses in financial services, healthcare, tourism, retail, media and aviation.
A firm believer in education, DR. Tahir views his contribution to education as a worthy cause as it means supporting and investing in the long term development of societies, helping to build intellectual capital and nurturing the most precious of resources – human talent. He hopes that this Scholarship will not only benefit Indonesian students studying at SMU, but also serve to further enhance the good relations and understanding between the people of Indonesia and Singapore.
