About the Award

Established in 2017, the Tan Keng Feng Prize for Top Student in Law of Torts and Legal Theory and Philosophy motivates exceptional students' talents from the Yong Pung How School of Law (YPHSL) at the Singapore Management University and spur them to greater heights of academic excellence.  It provides appropriate recognition for the top overall student who has excelled in both Law of Torts and Legal Theory and Philosophy, core courses offered by the YPHSL.

The Prize will be presented at a university-level event.

Eligibility Criteria

  • The Prize will be given to the top overall student who has excelled in both Law of Torts and Legal Theory and Philosophy, core courses offered by the YPHSL.
  • Factors considered include (but not limited to) the overall course grade and any other factors which demonstrate the student’s all-rounded abilities.

The Prize will only be given if there is a candidate of sufficient merit.

About the Donor

The Tan Keng Feng Prize for the Top Student in Law of Torts and Legal Theory and Philosophy is established to honour the memory of the Late Mr Tan Keng Feng.

Mr Tan served as Vice-Dean of the NUS Faculty of Law, a member of the Board of Legal Education, and the Chief Editor of the Malaya Law Review.  A teacher and mentor to generations of lawyers, he made invaluable contributions to the legal sector and was well known for his authority in Law of Torts.

This Prize is made possible from an endowed contribution by Ms Jennifer Chia, his wife, in his memory.
