About the Award
Established in 2000 by the late Professor Tan Teck Meng, the Tan Tee Chee & Tsan Kah Ngooh Excellence in Student Life Silver Award is given annually to outstanding students at the Singapore Management University who have demonstrated excellence in co-curricular activities.
The awards will be presented annually at the University Student Life Awards event organised by the Office of Student Life.
Eligibility Criteria
Candidates who have displayed excellence in sports, arts/cultural, and social/community events at university, national and international levels will be invited to apply.
The eligibility of the event will be determined by an Award Committee.
Sports, arts/cultural events, social/community contributions would include the following:
- Institute-Varsity-Polytechnic (IVP) Games
- National and International Championships
- Adventure Sports
- Musical Production
- Dancing Competition
- Debating Competitions Environment Competitions
- Case Study Competitions
- Outstanding service to SMU or the community at large
The awards will only be given if there are candidates of sufficient merit.
Benefits
Certificate and $500 Cash Prize, in each of the following category:
- sport
- arts/cultural
- social/community events

About the Donor
This award is supported by the late Professor Tan Teck Meng.
The late Professor Tan Teck Meng was among the true pioneers of SMU; he was part of the task force established in 1997 to study the setting up of Singapore's first autonomous university. He was also appointed SMU's first Deputy President and Provost in 1998. He served as Professor of Accounting at the School of Accountancy, touching the hearts of numerous colleagues and students through his unwavering dedication and commitment. He spent a total of forty illustrious years in academia, beginning in the then University of Singapore, now National University of Singapore, Nanyang Technological University and Singapore Management University.
He will be remembered as a most remarkable teacher, associate and dear friend, as well as for his exceptional contributions to accountancy and business education in Singapore.
