Please share a highlight of your student life at SMU so far.
Definitely my role as an SMU Peer Helper, where we are trained by SMU counsellors and external organizations, to be able to provide support to SMU students in distress. It has been the most useful and relevant experience I have had in my journey to becoming a clinical psychologist.
What is your favourite spot on campus?
Campus green. Its a vast open green space in the centre of SMU and I walk through it almost every time I come to SMU. I often see SMU students sitting down and chatting with friends or even parents and their kids having picnis or playing (since its open to the public as well). I’m not exactly sure why I like it so much, maybe it’s the familiarity of seeing it so often or the appeal of nature and greenery, either way it’s a central space that is hard to miss and one that I will look back fondly on.
Name your favourite class/mod at SMU.
It is a module called Deconstructing Singapore Society taught by Prof Alwyn Lim. As a Singaporean myself, it really helped me to have a more balanced view of why the government does what it does and also analyse the country’s key societal issues like race, public housing and politics.
