Joining SMU is not just choosing a degree, it’s choosing a pedagogy, it’s choosing to be engaged with your community, it’s choosing to stand up and participate in class, in projects, and in internships.
I chose SMU because as a young university, the department was young, exciting, and energetic. I loved the feeling of the place! It didn’t hurt that this would also allow me to move out of my comfort zone and discover a different place, different culture, and that Singapore is the perfect base for visiting the region.
I teach Project Management at the undergraduate and the masters level. I have also taught Decision Analysis at the undergraduate level. This course fits really well with my research interests, which are centered around new product development and R&D project portfolio management.
Our students are really hard workers, and are a pleasure to teach – they keep us on our toes! I really like getting to know some of them better when they apply to become teaching assistants or ask for reference letters for jobs or further studies, and to this day, keep in touch with some of my teaching assistants.
After 12 years at SMU, I have my firm favourites around campus: the Din Tai Fung opposite SMU, Nalan at Capitol Piazza, and if I am celebrating some good news, Flutes at the National Museum of Singapore. Most days, lunch is at Raffles City as there is a wide choice of reasonable food options there.
