"SMU has pushed me to become more confident and independent through honing my public speaking skills, thinking critically, and taking ownership of my learning. It has also given me the space to explore new interests and grow both personally and professionally!"

Why did you choose to come to SMU?

I chose SMU because of its unique pedagogy of seminar-style classes with no more than 45 students per class. This format was important to me as it allows for more intimate engagement with the learning material and creates more opportunities to ask questions and clarify concepts during class.

In addition, SMU places a strong emphasis on class participation and presentation skills. These aspects of the curriculum have helped me become more confident in expressing my views and thinking critically on my feet, which are skills that I know will serve me well in both academic and professional settings.

Beyond academics, SMU has an extremely vibrant student life. With such a wide range of student clubs and activities, I had the opportunity to explore interests outside my comfort zone. I joined both SMU Climb and SMU FitnessWorks, which not only introduced me to new sports, but also gave me a refreshing balance between academics and student life. That balance was important to me, and I’ve found that SMU really supports students in growing both personally and professionally.

What is the one thing you wish more people knew about SMU?

A fun fact about SMU is that the underground concourse (“T-Junction” as we like to call it) links all the schools together! Whether you’re rushing from the Law school to Business school, or heading to the libaries, you can get around campus without ever needing to walk above ground, especially on rainy days!

What is your favourite food to get on campus?

My favourite food to get on campus is definitely Prince Noodles, a ban mian stall that’s both delicious and conveniently located right next to the seminar rooms at the law school. It’s a go-to option for a quick and satisfying meal between classes.

One of the great things about SMU’s city campus is how accessible everything is. If I’m in the mood for something different, it’s easy to walk over to Funan or Raffles City, or take a short train or bus ride to Plaza Singapura for even more food options. The location really makes it easy to switch things up depending on what you’re craving.
