Innovation and Entrepreneurship
Why did you choose to come to SMU?
After completing high school, I began exploring different programs in the field of business management. I was predominantly looking for universities in my home country and considering some overseas. Specifically, I was looking for an institution that could help me hone my communication skills, voice my opinions and empower me to ask questions and apply lessons learnt in class to real-life situations.
After going through 20-30 different universities, SMU’s interactive pedagogy, seminar-style teaching format and immersive classes stood out the most for me as a perfect fit for what I wanted. Co-curricular activities were also an essential part of my research as I have enjoyed pursuing my hobbies alongside my studies. When I looked at the variety of CCAs SMU had to offer, academic or recreational, I knew that this was my dream university.
Please share some key highlights of your student life in SMU
I have had many memorable experiences at SMU so far, but two of them take the cake – trying to learn salsa and hosting my first live networking event in SMU.
Dance has always been my passion, and to take it forward I ensured that I took advantage of every opportunity in university. I attended the Salsa Social night organized by one of the dance CCAs in SMU, and even though it was my first taste of salsa, I enjoyed meeting new people, fumbling, making mistakes, and ultimately mastering the dance steps!
I also hosted a networking event as Professional Development Director of SMU Rotaract, inviting social entrepreneurs to share their wisdom and expertise with aspiring student entrepreneurs. Overall, I took away many valuable insights from the event on starting one’s own venture to make a meaningful impact on society. My experience as an event manager for an SMU club also made me more confident and sharpened my networking skills.
