Why did you choose to come to SMU?
When I was exploring universities after high school, I wanted a place that would challenge me academically while also offering opportunities to grow beyond the classroom. SMU stood out because the Information Systems programme aligned closely with my interests, and I was drawn to its interactive seminar-style learning, vibrant student life, and strong emphasis on industry exposure. The city campus was another factor that appealed to me, as being located in the heart of Singapore makes it easy to connect with companies, attend networking events, and experience the city's dynamic environment. Looking back, I feel that SMU has given me exactly the kind of university experience I was hoping for, one that has helped me grow both personally and professionally.
How has the scholarship benefitted you, not just monetarily but also in terms of your personal development?
Beyond the financial support, the scholarship has given me access to many opportunities that have enriched my university experience. Through scholar-exclusive events, I've had the chance to connect with fellow scholars across different disciplines, learn from alumni who were once scholars themselves, and attend networking sessions with industry professionals. These experiences have allowed me to build meaningful connections, gain valuable career and personal insights, and broaden my perspectives beyond the classroom. The scholarship has also motivated me to make the most of the opportunities available at SMU and continually challenge myself to grow both personally and professionally.
What advice would you give to prospective students (especially your juniors from high school) who are thinking of applying to SMU?
My advice would be to stay curious and keep an open mind. Don't feel pressured to have everything figured out before entering university, it's perfectly normal for your interests and aspirations to evolve over time. Take the initiative to explore opportunities beyond the classroom, whether through student organisations, community service, overseas programmes, or internships. Some of my most meaningful experiences and closest friendships came from simply being willing to step outside my comfort zone and give something new a try.
