Please share a key highlight of your student life in SMU.
One of the most defining experiences of my student life is being involved in SMU Samba Masala. As the Assets Director, I take care of the logistical and operational aspects of the band, while also performing with the team. Beyond the technical responsibilities, this role has taught me how to lead with empathy, collaborate across different personalities, and represent the band’s interests when engaging with other student bodies. The friendships I’ve made here — formed over long rehearsals, overseas gigs, and shared passion for music — have become some of the most treasured connections of my university life.
Please share more about your internship experience.
I interned at K-id, a Singapore-based startup that provides a compliance engine for online platforms, focusing on creating safer and more age-appropriate experiences for children and teens. It was a unique and meaningful experience that gave me first-hand exposure to applying what I’ve learned in university to real-world contexts. More importantly, it offered me a valuable platform to see how my individualized major, “Digital Ethics and Social Equality” could be directly applied to current societal challenges — particularly in the areas of responsible tech use, content design, and online safety for vulnerable groups like children and parents.
One of the most exciting parts of the internship was helping to develop content for digital parenting, including guides, conversation starters, and articles aimed at helping parents better understand and navigate the online world with their kids. I got to contribute ideas, write pieces, and even assist with research for upcoming AI chatbot development.
What is your favourite food to get on campus?
I’m a loyal fan of Supergreen and I almost always go for the same order each time! It’s not just tasty and healthy, but also super convenient for me since most of my classes are located in the School of Social Sciences building.
