Why did you choose to come to SMU?
I chose to come to SMU as I was drawn by the opportunity of taking up a second major which SMU offered as well as the interactive seminar-style learning that SMU was known for. I wanted the flexibility of exploring interdisciplinary subjects in school as well as having the opportunity to clarify questions directly with professors in a smaller setting. SMU’s Global Exposure policy was also very enticing as travelling overseas for exchange had always been on my personal bucket list. Finally, having spoken to seniors and my family, they all had good impressions of SMU as a business school with graduates having the strongest employment outcomes, which was what ultimately led to my decision of choosing SMU.
What is your favourite hangout spot/place to chill after a long day of classes?
Plaza Singapura – pretty cool place to walk around, even outside and around Plaza Singapura
Please share about any community service projects/trips that you have taken part in in SMU, and why those are meaningful to you.
One community service project I was involved in is Rotaract’s Candela project – a project involved in empowering migrant workers, be it through English, financial or digital literacy. During the sessions, we would be paired up with a migrant worker and we would have handouts to go through some of the organized learning content with them. I think these have been meaningful to me because migrant workers have always been, as cliched as it sounds, the unsung heroes of society and a really small, marginalized group – where our interactions with them have more often than not, been very limited. When I saw the project, it stood out to me because it meant an opportunity to give back to and interact with the people we often see on our way home and all around us, but never really got a chance to speak with.
