"Real growth is forged through challenges and discomfort—SMU pushed me out of my comfort zone and taught me that true resilience comes from fighting through the toughest moments."

Why did you choose to come to SMU?

To be honest, SMU is a unique university compared to other universities. I believe higher education today is fundamentally about preparing for the working world. I chose SMU because of its proven track record in the job market and its direct focus on professional readiness. Through its interactive seminar pedagogy and practical, real-world curriculum, SMU provides the exact training and market reputation needed to launch a successful career.

The biggest challenge you faced in the first year of university and how did you overcome it?

My biggest challenge in my first year was adapting to SMU’s fast-paced, seminar-style environment. Coming from a traditional high school background, I was used to passive listening rather than speaking up in class, so active class participation initially felt intimidating. I forced myself out of my comfort zone. I made myself to answer 3 questions every class, and I practiced to raise my hands when I have problems instead of keeping quiet. Over time, I am no more fear about speaking up in classes.

How has the scholarship benefitted you, not just monetarily but also in terms of your personal development?

I discovered the scholarship while actively exploring SMU’s student portal and financial assistance resources. What really compelled me to apply wasn't just the financial backing, but the core values the scholarship stands for—recognizing holistic development, academic dedication, and community involvement.

This scholarship has served as a powerful continuous motivator for my personal growth. Knowing that the university placed its trust in me constantly pushed me to stay disciplined, maintain high academic standards, and step out of my comfort zone—whether that meant taking on a demanding 7-month Work-Study internship at PwC or taking on leadership roles.
