"In SMU, I made amazing and energetic friends and am given many opportunities to grow myself as a person, explore career prospectives, and discover new interests!"

Why did you choose to come to SMU?

I chose SMU because I was attracted to its lively and energetic student culture. I heard about SMU from a senior from Junior College and was inspired by the fun stories he told me about the SMU student experience and clubs. Being an extremely adventurous and thrill-seeking person, I was drawn to Xseed – the club for non-competitive, niche, or extreme sports. So, after I was accepted into the course of my liking in SMU, I chose to enroll into SMU. After having spent 3 years here, the student culture lived up to my expectations and I have no regrets joining SMU!

Please share some key highlights of your student life in SMU

In July 2025, my moot team and I clinched First Runner Up the 8th H V Perera QC Memorial Moot Competition. The H V Perera QC Memorial Moot Competition is an international moot competition that focuses on commercial arbitration. Up against 20 other teams from Europe, Africa, and Asia, my team and I fought all the way to the finals and presented ourselves as a difficult match-up for all of our competition.

We began our preparations for the moot as early as January, even before the moot problem statement was released. The tough rigour in SMU’s mooting program and the high hopes that our moot coaches have for us were paramount to motivating us to push through with our preparations. We spent countless sleepless nights, working on the written memorandum till 4am and poured in some hundred hours (around 278 hours). We were overjoyed when our efforts finally came into fruition in the moot competition.

Another key highlight of my academic experience in SMU is when I good a disappointing grade for my first assignment in law school – A legal memorandum for the module “Legal Research and Writing.” I remember putting in minimal effort for that assignment and I thought I could get away with it. However, law professors are not to be messed with and I got a deserving grade for that assignment. This experience, although not the most positive, served as a necessary and timely reminder that hard work is key to a desirable grade.

What is your favourite spot on campus?

My favourite spot is the bridge between Connexion and the school of law. I love to chill by the seats facing the road, as it is mesmerizing to watch the endless waves of cars drive by under me while I munch on my MacDonald breakfast.
