"SMU has transformed me from someone focused purely on technical skills into a well-rounded leader who can bridge technology with business strategy, communicate confidently across diverse audiences, and tackle complex problems from multiple perspectives. The university's emphasis on holistic education, combined with incredible opportunities for leadership through student organizations and meaningful community service, has given me the confidence and skills to pursue my aspiration of becoming a cyber threat intelligence specialist who can make a real impact on national security."

Why did you choose to come to SMU?

What really drew me to SMU was their innovative approach to education that felt so different from traditional university models. The seminar-style teaching immediately appealed to me as I knew I'd thrive in an interactive, discussion-based environment rather than sitting passively in large lecture halls. There's something powerful about being able to engage directly with professors and classmates, debate ideas, and really dive deep into topics.

Please share with us your most recent or your favourite global experience.

My most incredible international experience has been my student exchange to KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, Sweden. The course offerings at KTH perfectly aligned with my interests in understanding technology's role in society. Modules like Sustainable ICT in Practice and Human Centered Technology for Disabilities offered perspectives that simply aren't available in Singapore's curriculum. I wanted to understand how different cultures approach technology design and implementation, and Sweden's progressive values around sustainability and inclusivity made it the perfect choice for expanding my worldview.

The absolute highlight of my experience was the incredible solo travel adventure I embarked on during my exchange. I managed to visit 28 countries and 60 cities while based in Stockholm! This wasn't just about ticking destinations off a list, it was about the amazing people I met along the way, the countless memories I created, and the diverse cultures I experienced firsthand. The solo travel aspect was particularly transformative because it pushed me completely out of my comfort zone and taught me to be independent and adaptable in ways I never imagined.

Name your favourite SMU professor/faculty, and why?

I have several favourites - Kyong Jin Shim, Chris Poskitt, Lee Yeow Leong, Kiruthika Ramanathan, and Raymond Teo. What I love about all of them is how genuinely passionate they are about what they do and how much they care about their students' education. They're not just delivering content, they're actively advocating for our learning and growth. They make classes engaging and fun, and you can really feel their enthusiasm for the subjects they teach.
