Why did you choose to pursue your degree at SMU back then?
Fresh out of polytechnic, I wanted to further my studies to expand my own perspectives and grow as a person. I was looking specifically for a school that could provide me with a lot of opportunities to learn in and beyond the classroom, and I thought that SMU was the most compelling option for me. Classes are 3 hours long, but it freed up a significant amount of time for me to pursue other opportunities, be it part-time work or CCAs.
How has SMU transformed you and equipped you with the skillset to thrive in your current career?
I have been working as a sustainability and social impact professional since I graduated and have moved from a non-profit to the private sector. Being able to learn across disciplines has been really helpful as I can also adapt and apply my expertise across different industries and fields.
What is your fondest memory of your time at SMU?
I met my soon-to-be husband, Joon Hau, at SMU! I was on the outgoing committee and he was the incoming President of SMUX Biking. We bonded over organising weekly ride-outs to various food spots and cafes in Singapore and he encouraged me to pursue cycling more.
I have many fond memories of us studying together, going out for late-night suppers, planning SMUX Biking's inaugural community service project, Bike4Change, and even taking modules together - and now I'm thrilled that we went from study partners to life partners!
