About the Financial Award

The SOSS Textbook Fund Grant, initiated by SMU Social Science alumnus Tim Mou Hui, is established in 2013 with the purpose to provide additional financial assistance to needy undergraduate students from SOSS to purchase textbooks.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Full-time undergraduates from the School of Social Sciences
  • Gross monthly household income not exceeding the prevailing income tiers to qualify for government bursaries
  • Priority will be given to applicants with demonstrated family financial hardship
  • Not be in receipt of scholarships (where the scholarship sum is disbursed in cash) in the same year of award as this book allowance

Tenure and Benefits

  • $500 (cash allowance)
  • Tenable for one year of study

Conditions of Award

  • May be in concurrent receipt of a government bursary, subject to fulfilment of its eligibility criteria
  • The Recipient must not hold any other awards of similar nature during the tenure of the Award, except with the prior written approval of the University

Application 

Shortlisting of candidates for consideration will be from the list of applicants applying for SMU-administered bursaries in the year of award.
