About the Financial Award

The Char Yong (Dabu) Association, Singapore Study Award is made possible by Char Yong (Dabu) Foundation Limited.

This Study Award is established to support outstanding full-time undergraduates at the Singapore Management University, with demonstrated financial needs, to achieve academic excellence and to accord appropriate recognition to them for their accomplishments.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Full-time undergraduates enrolled in any degree programme
  • Singapore Citizens or Singapore Permanent Residents
  • Possess good academic achievements
  • Demonstrated leadership potential
  • Active CCA and community service involvement
  • Consideration for students with demonstrated financial need (per capita income not more than $2,400)
  • Preference will be given to those who have special interest in the Hakka culture

Benefits

  • $5,000 per annum (towards subsidised tuition fees)
  • Tenable for one year of study
  • May be in concurrent receipt of a bursary for cash allowance, subject to fulfilment of its eligibility criteria.

Application

Selection will be on the list of applicants applying for SMU-administered bursaries in the year of award.

About the Donor

Founded in 1858 as a clan association, the Char Yong (Dabu) Association, Singapore’s mission was to look after the welfare of Hakka immigrants that migrated to Singapore from the Dabu County, Guangdong Province. It set up the Char Yong (Dabu) Foundation in September 1995 with a vision to make an impact in the area of education, promotion of Hakka and Chinese culture and charity benefitting the Dabu Hakka community in Singapore and the Singapore society at large.
