About the Financial Award

Established in 2023, the Mdm Chan Cheow Kim Study Award is available to full-time Singaporean undergraduates at the Singapore Management University.  It aims to motivate outstanding students at the University, with demonstrated financial needs, to spur them on to greater heights of academic excellence and to accord appropriate recognition to the recipients of the Study Award for their accomplishments. 

Eligibility Criteria

  • Full-time first year undergraduates enrolled in any degree programme
  • Singapore Citizens
  • Possess the right attitude and aptitude towards their studies
  • Good CCA and/or community service involvement
  • Have demonstrated evidence of family household income where the gross monthly per capita income is in accordance with prevailing guidelines to qualify for government bursaries

Benefits

  • $8,000 per year (towards subsidised tuition fee)
  • Tenable for one year of study
  • May be in concurrent receipt of another bursary for cash allowance, subject to fulfilment of its eligibility criteria.

Application

Shortlisting of candidates for consideration will be from the list of applicants applying for SMU-administered bursaries in the year of award.

About the Donor

The Mdm Chan Cheow Kim Study Award is established by Mr Melvyn Chua to motivate outstanding undergraduates at the University, with demonstrated financial needs, to spur them on to greater heights of academic excellence and to accord appropriate recognition to the recipients of the Study Award for their accomplishments. This Award is in memory of his grandmother whom he will remember for her selfless teaching to help others.
