About the Financial Award

The Mrs Wong Kwok Leong Inclusivity Education Grant is established by Mrs Wong to provide equal access to higher education for those with different forms of disabilities.  The intention of the Grant is to alleviate any difficulties the students may have with regard to their learning and to help them cope better in the SMU environment.  This Grant will go towards helping students with disability who may require additional equipment support like assistive technology and any other cost incurred during their studies in SMU.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Full-time SMU undergraduates
  • Singapore Citizens or Singapore Permanent Residents
  • Priority will be given to students with demonstrated financial needs
  • Students who are in receipt of other scholarships or awards would be eligible to apply but priority will be given to eligible students who are not in receipt of such awards and assistance

Tenure and Benefits

  • Up to $1,000 (cash allowance)
  • Tenable for one year of study

About the Donor

Mrs Wong Kwok Leong (黄马家兰女士) is a philanthropist.  She has been involved in charitable and philanthropic work since her younger days, both locally and in Asia, covering religion, medicine, culture, music, sports, community and education.  At her present age of 75 (as of 2013), she is still active as the Permanent Honorary President (永远名誉会长) of both the Thong Chai Hospital (同济医院) and Kwan-in Welfare Society (观音救苦会);Honorary President (名誉会长) of the Chung Hwa Medical Institution (中华医院), Public Free Clinic Society (大众医院), Singapore Literature Society (新加坡文艺协会) and Singapore Nanyang Confucian Association (新加坡南洋孔教会); as well as several Buddhist initiatives.
