About the Donor

Daniel Lee (BBM 2017) turned his passion for simplifying complex concepts with great storytelling into a full-time job. This award recognises a COMM253 participant who is learning to use Generative AI as a force multiplier, working together with LLMs to have real-world impact.

Daniel also wishes that he had access to GenAI as an SMU student, as he spent most of his time outside the seminar room rigging lights in the SMU concourse, planning the occasional theatre production, and persuading passers-by to appear on his SMU Campus Radio show. He hopes that GenAI gives the awardee a little more time to participate in student life, by helping them create content at scale and enable learning through rapid iteration.

According to communication theorist Walter R. Fisher, humans are “Homo Narrans” – storytellers by nature. Stories have the power to shape opinion, build trust, and drive positive impact in every aspect of life, in and out of the classroom. This award celebrates the spirit of balancing academics with active participation in the student community. Here’s to future generations of communicAItors making a difference in our industry!
