About the Financial Award

Established in 2023, the Sam Lim and Kim Tan Overseas Exchange Grant is available to full-time Singaporean undergraduates at the Singapore Management University.  It is aimed at assisting financially needy students, supporting their learning opportunities through the overseas exchange programmes with partner universities in Asia.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Full-time undergraduates enrolled in any degree programme
  • Singapore Citizens
  • With demonstrated financial needs (with gross monthly household per capita income not exceeding $2,750
  • Embarking on an overseas exchange programme to any university in Asia, with a preference for Southeast Asian universities.

Benefits

  • $5,000 each (cash allowance to cover exchange-related expenses)
  • Tenable for each recipient's one semester of study abroad with a partner university of SMU

Application

Applications will be invited through Centre for Global Education and Opportunities' call for exchange applications:

  • February to March (Fall exchange application)
  • July to August (Spring exchange application)

About the Donor

The Sam Lim and Kim Tan Overseas Exchange Grant is established by Ting Ting, daughter of Sam Lim and Kim Tan, entrepreneurs who are the guiding light to Ting Ting. Through their encouragement, Ting Ting travelled the world gaining varied perspectives through experiencing different cultures. She hopes that the Grant will enable the recipients to have the same opportunity to broaden their minds and inspire the recipients to connect their passion with purpose, to make society a better place.

Ting Ting graduated from the University of Bristol and was admitted as an Advocate and Solicitor of the Singapore Bar. She is also an independent legal advisor for a variety of Small and Medium Enterprises in Singapore involved in the precision engineering, manufacturing, telecommunication infrastructure and technology industries. She has been blessed to have the opportunity to travel the world, to work and volunteer and would like to share her experience to motivate, guide and support young people as they navigate their way through their lives. She believes in empowering youth, especially young women to identify their potential and to realize their dreams.
