About the Financial Award

Established in 2023, the Tan Chay Bing Bursary is available to full-time undergraduates at the Singapore Management University.  It aims to encourage bright undergraduates to aspire for academic excellence in spite of adversity and financial hardship.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Full-time undergraduates enrolled in any degree programme
  • Singapore Citizens or Singapore Permanent Residents
  • Active in co-curricular activities and engaged in community involvement
  • Have demonstrated evidence of family household income where the gross monthly  per capita income is in accordance with prevailing government bursary guidelines throughout the tenure of the Bursary

Benefits

  • $10,000 per annum (towards subsidised tuition fee and study-related expenses)
  • Tenable for one year of study
  • May be in concurrent receipt of a bursary for cash allowance, subject to fulfilment of its eligibility criteria.

Application

Shortlisting of candidates for consideration will be from the list of applicants applying for SMU-administered bursaries in the year of award.

About the Donor

The Tan Chay Bing Education Fund was set up in memory of the late Mr Tan Chay Bing, the eldest son of Mr Tan Kah Kee, who was an eminent entrepreneur, philanthropist, community leader and educationalist. The Fund reflects the Tan family’s continuous and passionate contributions towards education to ensure support is readily available for those who need it the most.
